WHY USE NBS… PREVENTING TIBIAL PERIOSTITIS

WHY USE NBS… PREVENTING TIBIAL PERIOSTITIS
Interview with Francesco Pulcinelli Physiotherapist

The NBS lace blocker has been developed through collaboration with various sportsmen and women, especially endurance athletes and ultra-marathon runners, and also involving figures from the world of sports wellness in order to get more points of view and achieve a truly high-performance result.

This is the case of Francesco Pulcinelli, a physiotherapist who works in contact with many athletes and follows most of the members of the NBS Ronda Ghibellina Team, an Ultra Trailer team directly involved in the testing and development of NBS.

So let’s hear from Francesco about the benefits of NBS, especially as regards the prevention of certain diseases typical of those who love running and endurance!

Francesco: I’ve been doing the most wonderful job in the world at Studio Farnetani in Foiano della Chiana since 2010: physiotherapist.

Through Studio Farnetani I have had the opportunity to treat different types of problems, but the ones I certainly enjoy most are related to the orthopaedic side. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of managing many sportsmen and women of all levels, low, medium and high (although I have a passion for amateurs and the particular determination and passion they put into it), and I look after that group of lunatics from the Ronda Ghibellina who do Trail and Ultra Marathons.

For those who practise endurance, the pathologies that are frequent are many: banding, achilles tendinitis, anterior or posterior tibial tendinitis, stress fractures, flexor overload… but what I have observed through the guys in the Ronda, as a discomfort that occurs most frequently, is definitely anterior tibial periostitis. And it is precisely to prevent this problem that we have adopted the NBS lace blocker.

Obviously, the system prevents, but does not permanently prevent, the occurrence of this problem, but the possibility of locking the lacing system at a constant tension has a number of benefits.

As soon as I find my own personal string tensioning, I can lock the system into that conformation without it losing tension during use, thus limiting the rubbing and movement of the foot that accentuates the normal swelling of the foot during prolonged performance.

In my opinion, this is the real beauty of the NBS system, the possibility of identifying a personal lacing tension that will remain stable until I change it, and it is this aspect, the possibility of adjusting a tension that remains constant in place that helps prevent problems such as tibial periostitis.

On the other hand, if I know that my tendon sheaths will swell up after a few kilometres, I will keep everything a little wider, and every time my foot swells up, we can adjust everything to the right tension in an easy and intuitive way.
