Gran Canaria No Stop ultra-marathon runner Luca Papi is trying again this year with an even higher ambition: to run the Trans Gran Canaria route five times, following in the footsteps of the different editions, hoping for a final mileage of 1300 km!

To accomplish a feat of this level we will be at his side this time as well, supporting it with the NBS system and allowing him to forget about his laces.

The 2020 Canary Islands venture

Less than a year after the #ULTIMATECHALLENGE which saw him attempt to ride the four historic routes of the Trans Gran Canaria 360° consecutively, Luca is trying again and raising the bar.

In September 2020, Luca Papi (link to IG page), in semi-autonomous mode, walked the trails and landscapes of his beloved island of Gran Canaria, with the aim of completing a 1000 km route.
But due to an injury, a stress contracture in the quadriceps femoris that accompanied him for over 200 km, and torrid heat (32° at night and over 40° during the day), he was forced to stop at 800 km.

#GRANCANARIANSTOP the 2021 enterprise

However, Luca, tough and methodical, has taken up the Gran Canaria issue again this year and decided to launch #GRANCANARIANOSTOP

The 31 July 2021 will start from Prologue in Teror Desafio de los Picos) at 18.00 local time (19.00 Italian time), together with Claire Bannwarth (link to her social networks?).French ultra-marathoner, in the direction of Agaetewhere they will arrive around midnight and from there they will take the route of the 360° 2021, starting a long journey of almost 20 days in the heart of Gran Canaria.

There won’t be a precise order in which they will insert the other routes: it will all depend on the start times in relation to the different characteristics of the terrain.
When they tackle the 2020 edition to go to the Roque Nublo, they will mainly ride the Compostele road, for the editions that go through the Aldea it is possible that they will cut the big loop around the city.

Luca and Claire will certainly be passing through Agaete, a refuelling point, several times, you can follow them live hereand with us on our social pages.
